Orla Farrell visited this wonderful school in Melbourne, Australia with her family where they enjoyed the superb environment. Here are her children on their first day, going in with their uncle. They all wore the wrong hats; oops! Ms. Farrell's nephew helped to dig a pond in the grounds for visiting creatures. It is an area alive with poisonous snakes and spiders so it proved a tricky project!

Schools around the world

My 4 Irish kids had to come back next day with frozen water bottles and Legionnaire's hats as well as shorts, standard equipment for trips to the beach in record temperatures of 42 degrees. The school was shut when the temperature went over 32 degrees which happened sometimes around Christmas as they didn't have air conditioning. Just like snow days. We really enjoyed watching the Christmas Play but we had to fan ourselves with the programme all the time to stay cool. The children loved being in their bare feet but in the yard you were meant to wear shoes. Each classroom had a kitchen to make snacks. It was so hot sometimes children had a nap on the sofas in the classrooms. Each child kept a sheepskin in school to sit on like a cushion or for sitting on the floor. Even though they are pure wool they are cool in summer and warm in Winter, washable and very green!
